The Rideau Calls Open for Business

The Westport Rideau Lakes Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization that in one form or another has been active since the 1950's. We encourage, promote, and support the economic interests of our members. We believe that a strong and united Chamber of Commerce helps to make the Rideau district equally strong and united. Our objectives are as follows:

  1. To serve the community and in particular, it's business interests.
  2. To provide information services to the public regarding business, industry, potential residents and tourism.
  3. To work with all levels of Government for the good of the community.
  4. To encourage, promote and improve the overall business climate in the community.
  5. To attract industry and tourism to the community.
  6. To maintain a focus on key issues and concerns and offer assistance to solve these problems.
  7. To support other groups in their efforts to serve the community.
  8. Each year we sponsor the Citizen of the Year Award, and Canada Day Celebrations. We work hand-in-hand with the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce acting as liaison between Business and Government.

Accessibility Standards for Customer Service

Chamber members need to be aware of the "Accessibility Standards for Customer Service" standards that came into effect on January 1, 2008. Ontario businesses that provide goods or services, and have more than one employee in Ontario, must be in compliance with all facets of the regulations by 2012. The Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC) has introduced two new "Accessible Service Excellence" programs to guide your business through the new standards. You can visit the OTEC web site here: http://www.otec.org

Members can familiarize themselves with the accessibility standards here. http://www.AccessON.ca/compliance
